Aknanda Qigong

Aknanda Qigong occupies a particular geography and philosophy. Nosara sits inside the Nicoya Peninsula, one of five Blue Zones where people measurably outlive global averages. The local culture already orients toward slow living, daily movement, and community. Practicing here is not a retreat from ordinary life but an extension of the environment.

Bharú, the founder and head teacher, brings 25 years of direct transmission in Qigong, Tai Chi, meditation, and Traditional Chinese Medicine—studied with teachers across China, Indonesia, Thailand, Germany, Italy, and Argentina. The Aknanda Method weaves together Daoist and Buddhist wisdom, biomechanics, and TCM into a coherent practice. What distinguishes the academy is precision: knowing why a posture works, understanding what breath does to the fascial system, learning to distinguish effort from tension.

The academy operates as a teaching institution, not a spa. It offers private sessions (1.5 hours with Bharú, including sitting, standing, and moving meditations, postures, and purifying movements from Qigong, Tai Chi, and meditation, plus optional acupuncture or Zen Shiatsu), group meditation, regular classes, workshops, retreats, and a 200-hour Teacher Training Certification. Programs run both in-person in Nosara and online. Retreats scheduled for July 20–August 9, 2026, address yoga practitioners, meditation seekers, and those pursuing general wellness.

In 2026, the Prestige Awards—a UK-based recognition program evaluating small and medium-sized businesses across 40+ regions—named Aknanda the Best Wellness Center in Central America & the Caribbean. The award recognized consistent quality, clear expertise, and genuine value to community. Bharú describes the recognition as belonging to everyone who trained, asked hard questions, and kept showing up.
